Electric utility vehicles
Lahti has become a busy centre for utility vehicle production. Kabus Ltd. and Lahden Autokori Ltd. develop and manufacture buses in Lahti. There is currently some development activities related to electric buses, also involving local traffic operators. GreenCity program is involved to the on-going development activity.
Objectives:
- To find a cost-effective way to convert diesel buses to electric power.
- To test electric buses in actual service traffic.
- To investigate electrification of other utility vehicles.
- To communicate information related to electric bus operations extensively to Lahti residents as well as nationally.
The far-reaching idea is to support multiple different traffic technologies. It is necessary to gather background information and real usability experiences of new transportation technologies before the large tendering of public transportation performed in 2013.
