The Green City is vibrant
The development plans of Lahti target towards a living urban core. The traffic solutions will emphasise a leisurely pace, favouring pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. A pedestrian area about one square kilometre in size will be built in the centre of the city. The traditional car city will be transformed into a pedestrian city centre that supports good quality of life. The city centre will be characterised by the buzz of conversation from street cafés.
The usability of public transport will be improved by adding bus lanes to main streets. Cycling will become increasingly attractive with smoother surfaces and new routes. The new public transport centre is connected to the city centre by an easy walking route.
